SCAM ALERT - "FREE SHIPPING"

Yellow text "SCAM ALERT" on a blue background, conveying a warning. Bright, bold letters emphasize urgency and caution.

😧 Free Shipping "Scam" alert 😡

A while ago a good friend of mine was making an online purchase. Apparently they clicked on a link for "free shipping" thinking they would save a few dollars on a purchase. It was an easy mistake, we all want free shipping an a lot of companies, like Amazon, offer free shipping. Unfortuantely what they did not realize at the time, is that they signed up for a monthly subscription to a company called "FreeShipping.com" As a result, their card has been billed for $19 PER MONTH for numerous months now. Unfortunately they are "legitimate" charges (because they "signed up for it"), but I use that term loosely. It was not until they looked in their bank account and noticed the charges. Four lessons to be learned:

  • Be VERY careful what you click on when shopping on your cell phone. Because of the small screen it is very easy to miss a con like this that will make you think you are getting something for "Free" but then find out that you are getting charged a monthly fee that more than consumes that "free" service.

  • Check your credit cards and bank accounts on a regular basis to catch cons like this or cybercrime hacks. The few minutes each week, or at least month may save you a lot of money and headaches.

  • Read the "Fine Print"

  • If it seems to good to be true, it probably is.

Of course, not applicable in this case, but you need to also make sure you have sound cybersecurity. The attacks are becoming more common every day. Visit Genesis Business Advisors if you want to learn more.
